Project: When Life gives you lemons, create a recipe set that includes lemonade. In Spring of 2020 during my Layout and Analysis class, I was assigned to create a set of recipe cards. The main goal was to create a layout that was dynamic enough to fit any length of text onto the cards, without having to make edits to the main components. With this I also had to create a design system for the front of each recipe card. The third component of this project was creating the box or container that this set of cards would be packaged in. The main goal of this project for myself was to create a system that would work across as cards, but also to look forward to how this design could become part of a bigger set. Setting up the designs in the manner I have would allow for another set of recipes to be made, possibly a set that all included lime and would be able to apply it to another group.
Process: First step of this process was to find the recipes to be used in the cards, with the purpose of finding larger recipes as well as smaller ones. After gathering all recipes I began using different layouts concepts for the card designs. Following this, I narrowed down to an option that would allow me to use it across all of the recipes found for the project. After implementing the layout design for the information came time to create a front cover design for each recipe. With the covers I wanted to create a design that was somewhat different from each other while keeping the same geometric style utilized within the back of the card. Choosing the geometric style allowed for more color variation amongst the cards as well as making it easier for the user to find a particular recipe with different colors. Besides bringing in the rectangles for the front designs I utilized the patterns made and applied it to the box design. Keeping in mind the idea of utilizing this set as part of a bigger series, the applied design allows me to easily switch color palettes if needing to create another set possibly to do with lime, or another ingredient.
